Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Sunburned In London
Melbourne quintet Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever return with “Sunburned In London”, their first new music in four years since 2022’s Endless Rooms. The six-minute track arrives via I Oh You/Mushroom Music, marking a renewed sense of scale and confidence for the Australian indie-rock band.
“Sunburned In London” unfolds with layered guitars and subtle group vocals, anchored by the propulsive rhythm section of drummer Marcel Tussie and bassist Joe Russo. Tom Russo’s understated, emotive vocal leads the track through shimmering guitar work and a steady groove that builds patiently, allowing space to open up.
“As a band, we have always made songs about cities”, Tom Russo explains. “I was thinking about sensory overload and relentless beauty, and the creeping feeling in the streets that the party’s winding up and the lights are about to come on”.
The track captures that wired, slightly woozy feeling when everything looks beautiful but you’re running on fumes—too many lights, too many sounds. It’s classic Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever territory, sitting comfortably next to standout moments from their catalog like “Fountain of Good Fortune” and “Cars In Space”.
The band—singer/songwriter/guitarists Tom Russo, Joe White, and Fran Keaney, bassist Joe Russo, and drummer Marcel Tussie—shared a live performance video filmed at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre, featuring backing vocals and keys from Stella Donnelly, Sophie Ozard, and Julia Wallace. The loose, communal performance adds even more lift to the track.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever have scheduled a hometown performance at Northcote Theatre on February 17, with tickets priced at just $10. They recently played a sold-out comeback show at Thornbury Bowls Club in Victoria that sold out in under sixty seconds.
