JessB x Tasker – Say My Name
Kenyan-New Zealand rapper JessB teams up with Sydney producer Tasker for “Say My Name”, an after-dark electronic dance track that recalls the Beams era Presets. Written and recorded in Sydney when the two creatives crossed paths, the song pulses with charismatic percussion and JessB’s staunch, hypnotic flow guiding the rhythm.
JessB describes the track as capturing the whirlwind of connecting with someone while knowing it might only last a moment—what she calls “future nostalgia whilst still in the moment”. The lyrics move through fleeting romance with confidence: “Turn around, broke it out, time move slow but time is now / I won’t see you in the morning but I feel you in the crowd”. She raps about taking control and being the alpha, celebrating women who aren’t afraid to be powerful. Lines like “Confidence is something that they fear, but these women say that they like it” and “They turned us down so we love louder” push back against attempts to diminish that power.
Tasker, who claimed Best Breakthrough Producer at the 2025 MPEG Awards after producing two ARIA Australian Albums Chart number one debuts for Rum Jungle and The Terrys, says they kept the record in the vault for a while. They decided now was the right time to release it. He calls JessB a superstar.
The Auckland-based artist has spent seven years traversing Aotearoa, Australia, Asia, Europe, and the UK through hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, ragga, and afrobeats. She’s shared stages with Kehlani, recorded with Kranium, Sister Nancy, Sampa The Great, and Gold Fang, and headlined her own tours. This year she landed a top-five finish in the 2025 APRA Silver Scroll Awards and performed at the inaugural Afrosoul festival in Auckland. She won Best New Zealand Act at the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards and has released two EPs, Bloom and New Views.
