Cat Power – Try Me
Cat Power celebrates the 20th anniversary of “The Greatest” with “Redux”, a three-song EP arriving January 23rd, 2026. Chan Marshall reunites with Dirty Delta Blues, the band that backed her on the original tour: guitarist Judah Bauer (The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion), keyboardist Gregg Foreman (The Delta 72, Jesse Malin), bassist Erik Paparozzi (Lizard Music), and drummer Jim White (Dirty Three, Hard Quartet).
The lead single “Try Me” covers James Brown’s 1958 classic. Marshall originally recorded the track during “The Greatest” sessions but never completed it. Grammy-winning engineer Stuart Sikes, who worked on the original album with Loretta Lynn and The White Stripes, recorded the EP at Austin’s Church House Studios.
“Redux” also includes Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U”, recorded as a tribute to guitarist Teenie Hodges. Hodges was a member of The Memphis Rhythm Band who played on “The Greatest” and formed a close bond with Marshall before his death in 2014. The EP closes with a new version of “Could We”, arranged as it was performed live on the original tour.
Marshall announced a massive 20th anniversary tour where she’ll perform “The Greatest” in full. The run starts February 12th, 2026 in Houston and continues through North America before heading to Europe in October and the UK in November.
