Bibi Club – Amaro
Montreal avant-pop duo Bibi Club announce their third album “Amaro,” dropping February 27 via Secret City Records, with the title track arriving after a year marked by the deaths of two loved ones. Singer-keyboardist Adèle Trottier-Rivard and guitarist Nicolas Basque shift away from their tender indie pop sound toward electronic body music, dark wave, and neofolk.
“Amaro” builds around an ominous minor-key riff and shadowy club groove. The duo describes Amaro as an immortal figure existing between life and death, representing the thin line between grief and light. After loss sharpened their focus, they channelled what they call “a fury of living” into the album’s 11 tracks.
The production incorporates harpsichords, trumpets, and ritual chants alongside the darker electronic elements. Helena Deland and saxophonist Dimitri Milbrun contribute to the album, which draws inspiration from recent tours with Blonde Redhead and Circuit des Yeux, as well as a collaboration with Calvin Johnson.
Bibi Club’s previous album “Feu de garde” made the Polaris Music Prize shortlist, and they performed at last month’s gala. The duo named themselves after the makeshift discotheque in their living room where friends gather to dance, but “Amaro” takes that impulse into heavier territory.
They’ll test the new material on a European and UK tour in April 2026, hitting Brighton, Bristol, London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Leeds, Le Havre, Tourcoing, Paris, and Berlin, following November shows in Quebec.
