John Brown’s Body, Prince Fatty – Sword Of Sorrow Dub
Prince Fatty takes on John Brown’s Body’s “Little Bit of Some” for “Sword of Sorrow Dub,” a collaboration that spans 30 years and two continents. The track started life in a Somerville, Massachusetts flat back in 1995 as an instrumental piece from JBB’s earliest material.
Prince Fatty reworked the song at his London studio, bringing his signature dub treatment to what the band calls an “instant roots classic.” The UK producer’s approach transforms the original into his distinctly sublime soundscape — heavy on reverb, echo delays, and those classic dub mixing techniques that make instruments drop in and out of the mix.
Written by Kevin Kinsella and Lee Hamilton, the original was produced by John Brown’s Body before getting the Prince Fatty remix treatment. The collaboration makes sense given both acts’ commitment to roots reggae traditions, though Prince Fatty’s studio wizardry adds layers of depth the original probably never had.
John Brown’s Body has been refining their sound since the mid-90s, and this partnership with one of the UK’s most respected dub producers shows they’re still finding new ways to present their catalog. Prince Fatty’s mixing style — all analog warmth and spatial effects — suits their material perfectly.
The track drops via Easy Star Records, a label that’s made its name connecting reggae traditions with contemporary artists.
