Pillow Queens – Be a Big Girl
Dublin’s Pillow Queens flip the script on “Be a Big Girl”, turning a phrase meant to silence into a rallying cry for taking up space. Released independently via their Pillow Queen Records, the track was produced and mixed by Daniel Fox (Gilla Band, Sprints, Lambrini Girls) at Sonic Studios in Stoneybatter, with mastering by Jamie Hyland.
Instead of keeping quiet and composed, Pillow Queens redefine strength as staying put when told to leave, making a fuss, and refusing to shrink. The song captures the tension between exhaustion and persistence, finding power in simply enduring. As the band puts it, staying in Ireland and making music rather than hopping on the first flight out is “an act of stubborn optimism.”
The track follows their 2024 album “Name Your Sorrow” and arrives during a period of transformation for founding members Cathy McGuinness, Sarah Corcoran, and Pamela Connolly. After three acclaimed albums and an Irish Album of the Year nomination for “Leave the Light On”, they’ve built a reputation for emotional depth and anthemic power.
“Be a Big Girl” launches alongside their massive European tour supporting Lord Huron, playing to 50,000 people across Norway, Sweden, Germany, France, and the UK. The Dublin trio has previously opened for IDLES, Pavement, and Phoebe Bridgers.
