TTSSFU – Forever

TTSSFU’s “Forever” might be the brightest thing Tasmin Stephens has ever recorded, and that’s precisely the point. The Wigan-born artist calls it “probably the happiest song I’ve written, maybe the only happy song I’ve written,” and for good reason—it’s an ode to friendship that cuts through her usual dark dream-pop with genuine warmth.

Co-produced by Chris Ryan (Just Mustard, New Dad), “Forever” builds stadium-sized drums around crunchy guitars and Stephens’ signature whispered vocals, now drenched in reverb that feels more nostalgic than unsettling. The track sits at the lighter end of her upcoming EP “Blown,” which documents the chaos of early adulthood through scuzzy distortion and vulnerable lyrics.

Stephens wrote the song while attempting to craft actual pop music, something that initially felt dishonest until she focused on what genuinely made her happy. “When trying to think of things that made me happy, my mind went straight to her,” she explains about the friend who inspired the track. That authenticity shows—synths blur into her celestial vocals, creating what feels like a hymn to lasting connection.

The accompanying video, directed by Seth Lloyd, matches the song’s playful energy. After battling writer’s block and imposter syndrome following her signing with Partisan Records, Stephens found her voice again by embracing honest emotion over forced happiness. “Forever” proves that approach works, filtering her shoegaze tendencies through something approaching genuine joy.

It’s a crucial step for an artist who has toured with Kim Deal and Mannequin Pussy, while learning to trust collaborators with her intensely personal material. The result feels like TTSSFU is “finally” letting sunlight into her typically shadowy sound.
