Westerman – Adriatic

Will Westerman shares “Adriatic”, the lead single from his third album “A Jackal’s Wedding” (November 7 on Partisan Records). He wrote most of the album in Athens and recorded it over five weeks at the Old Carpet Factory on the Greek island of Hydra, working with producer Marta Salogni (Björk, The xx, Sampha).

“Adriatic” features swirling synths and an atmospheric production that reflects Westerman’s process of examining his life and reclaiming his narrative. He wrote the song while struggling to relocate to Greece, describing it as trying to “break outside of the confines of my immediate physical reality.”

Westerman explains the song as a celebration of mental escape when practical limitations constrain you. He admits to getting severely depressed after his first record, questioning whether he wanted to continue making music. Writing “Adriatic” represented taking back ownership of his creative space: “that creative space which is just my thing and it’s powerful.”

Salogni’s production captures the heat and atmosphere of recording in the Greek island setting. The collaboration follows Westerman’s 2023 album “An Inbuilt Fault” and marks his continued exploration of alt-pop sounds influenced by his travels between Lisbon, Greece, and his current base in Milan.

Dimitris Rokos directed the seafaring video for “Adriatic”. Westerman supports Nation of Language on their North American West Coast dates in October before UK and European shows in November.
