Snooper – Guard Dog
Nashville punk experimentalists Snooper share “Guard Dog”, the second single from their upcoming album “Worldwide” (October 3 on Third Man Records). Founded by Blair Tramel and guitarist Connor Cummins, the band now includes bassist Happy Haugen, drummer Brad Barteau, and guitarist Conner Sullivan.
“Guard Dog” tackles identity crisis and outside judgment with Tramel’s vocals swirling around stocky electric guitar and viscous drum hits. The chorus bites back at pressure: “Contradiction // lifestyle // Stick here for awhile // Believe it true! // Told me what to do? // Dogs only bark when I’m with you.”
Tramel describes the song as being about growth and the discomfort of feeling too comfortable. It addresses second-guessing, overthinking, trust issues, and keeping momentum, but mostly about having fun, which she calls “the most important thing.”
Working with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen) marks new territory for Snooper. Where 2023’s “Super Snõõper” captured their raw live energy, “Worldwide” balances intensity with hook-laden songwriting. Congleton was already a fan, and the band credits the collaboration as integral to their artistic growth.
“Worldwide” showcases stylistic exploration inspired by electronic music, with unrelenting mechanical rhythms that capture the frenzied pace of their lives while allowing release through Tramel’s yelps and Cummins’ scuzzy guitar breaks.
Before the album drops, Snooper supports The Hives on their North American tour throughout September, then returns to Nashville for their album release show at Eastside Bowl on October 3.
