Mini Trees – Hollow
Mini Trees strips away pretence on “Hollow,” a raw examination of post-breakup emptiness that cuts deeper than expected. Lexi Vega’s songwriting doesn’t sugarcoat the messy aftermath of a relationship that ran its course: no dramatic blowups, no villains—just two people who stopped calling and moved on.
Jon Joseph’s production keeps things minimal, letting Vega’s vocals carry the weight of lines like “If we’re both better for it / Why am I still hollow?” The arrangement supports rather than distracts, with Joseph handling both production and mixing duties. Danny Kalb’s mastering adds the final polish to what feels deliberately unpolished.
Vega performs alongside Joseph, creating subtle vocal interplay that mirrors the song’s central tension. Both parties supposedly moved on, found better coping mechanisms, and even found other people. Yet, that hollow feeling persists, the kind that settles in when you realise moving forward doesn’t automatically fill the space someone left behind.
“Hollow” captures that particular brand of emptiness that comes not from dramatic heartbreak, but from relationships that fade away.
