Bicep – CHROMA 010 BRILLO

Bicep closes their CHROMA series with ‘CHROMA 010 BRILLO’. The Northern Irish duo of Andy Ferguson and Matt McBriar wrap up their ambitious label experiment with a track that embodies their entire vision – blending euphoric 90s-esque riffs with soulful vocals while adding what they call ‘a touch of softness that subtly casts a shadow over the series’.

The CHROMA project launched in January 2024 with an ethos to cover everything ‘from Acid to Alkaline’, both as a home for their underground club productions and a platform for their wider musical explorations. They explain, ‘We’ve increasingly wanted to show a more rounded picture of what we do in the studio. We do a lot of more heavy techno focused music, ambient and various other styles that don’t really fit into the ‘BICEP’ sound, and which often never sees the light of day.’

What makes ‘BRILLO’ particularly compelling is how it crystallizes their approach to nostalgia. Despite not being part of the 90s clubbing scene during its heyday, being outside gave them fresh perspective to reimagine those influences in modern context.
