Acolyte – The Blue Dark

Edinburgh’s Acolyte has emerged with “The Blue Dark”, a track that promises to be the perfect introduction to what they’re calling their “singular sound” – which is music industry speak for “we hope you like it because we’re not sure how else to describe it.” This four-piece comprises lead vocalist and poet Iona Lee alongside Lost Map regular Gloria Black (of Maranta fame) on synth and vocals, producer/multi-instrumentalist Ruairidh Morrison, and percussionist Daniel Hill.

The single is the debut offering from their upcoming EP of the same name, which will be initially available to Lost Map Records’ Post Map Club members.

“The Blue Dark” unfolds as what they describe as a “cinematic dreamscape” built from shimmering synths and ominously developing rhythms. The song creates a deep, immersive melody that makes listeners feel like they’re floating in a dream, which could be either transcendent or concerning, depending on your relationship with reality.

The band plans to showcase this material during a five-night residency at Edinburgh’s Hidden Door Arts Festival, where they’ll perform what they call a “specially created psychedelic site-specific work combining music, poetry, movement, sound design and visuals”.
