Ty Segall – Possession

The second single from Ty Segall’s forthcoming album promises something special brewing in the prolific artist’s creative cauldron. “Possession,” the title track of his sixteenth studio album, kicks off with an unassuming shake before erupting into a joyful guitar grind, topped with towering harmonies and adorned with brass flourishes.

The song opens with the evocative line “A bible placed beside the butter by a farmer of misfortune in the winter,” setting the scene for a rich exploration of superstition and mass hysteria. As the narrative unfolds, we witness the growing paranoia of the villagers and their obsession with supposed demonic possession.

Musically, Segall incorporates strings, horns, and his piano playing alongside his signature guitar hooks and vocal melodies.

The complete album hits shelves on May 30th via Drag City Records, and based on this title track, it might well stand alongside some of Segall’s most important releases.
