Dutch Interior – Sandcastle Molds
The LA County-based sextet Dutch Interior returns with “Sandcastle Molds”, a contemplative piece that explores personal identity amid societal decay. The track, released via Fat Possum Records, follows their earlier single “Ecig”.
Jack Nugent’s introspective lyrics emerged from a late-night drive on the 405, reflecting on personal growth and resilience in turbulent times. The band’s sound weaves layered psychedelia, and surf-inspired acoustic guitars, creating an atmospheric journey through their musical landscape.
The accompanying video, created by the band and their friends, presents an interesting visual concept – juxtaposing miniatures with their life-sized counterparts, from dollhouses to furniture and wax figures. This creative approach mirrors the song’s themes of control and perspective.
Formed by longtime friends Jack Nugent, Conner Reeves, Davis Stewart, Noah Kurtz, and brothers Shane and Hayden Barton, Dutch Interior has evolved from their initial experimental phase through releases like “Kindergarten” and “Blinded By Fame”. Their sound traverses alternative country, indie rock, and ambient territories, drawing from diverse influences including ambient, southern rock, jazz, and dance music.
