Doves – Renegade
Doves have released their brand-new single, “Renegade”.
The track emerges as a powerful comeback, leading their sixth studio album ‘Constellations For The Lonely’, set for Valentine’s Day 2025 via EMI North. Following their chart-topping 2020 release ‘The Universal Want’, this new material arrives with deep personal significance.
“Renegade” was born from a challenging period, as the band faced the difficult decision to cancel their previous tour due to frontman Jimi Goodwin’s mental health struggles. The track carries a Blade Runner-inspired theme, with Goodwin reflecting on Roy Batty’s famous speech about the temporal nature of existence.
Guitarist Jez Williams describes the album as “quite dark”, shaped by recent experiences and current times, yet aiming to offer hope. “It’s music that can hold your hand in this dark world,” he explains, envisioning it as “a future soul album for outsiders.”
The new material was crafted between Manchester, North Wales, and Cheshire, with additional production from long-term collaborator Dan Austin. For Doves, this release represents not just a return but a renewed creative chapter, with Goodwin already hinting at more material in development.
