Kal Marks – A Functional Earth

Kal Marks – A Functional Earth

Kal Marks returns with “A Functional Earth,” the second single from their upcoming album “Wasteland Baby.” Vocalist Carl Shane explains that the song was inspired by an unexpected source: the Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds.” However, Kal Marks puts their own dark spin on the influence, creating a “trippy song about the end of the world” instead of one about sunshine and flowers.

The lyrics reflect on humanity’s self-destructive tendencies and environmental negligence. Shane points out the contrast between Earth’s natural beauty and humanity’s inability to appreciate it, driven by an endless pursuit of power.

The accompanying video, shot by Pat Ronayne with effects by Kieran McShane, visually complements the song’s intense themes.
