King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard – Field of Vision

Man, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are at it again! These guys never stop, they’re dropping their 26th album, “Flight b741,” this Friday. 26 albums! And they’re giving us one last taste with “Field of Vision” before the big release.

This track’s got a cool story behind it. Stu Mackenzie, the frontman, says Joey (the lead guitarist) sent him a voice memo with the main riff. They jammed it out in the studio and it clicked. But here’s the kicker – Joey almost axed it from the album! He called Stu a couple weeks after recording, saying they should cut it ’cause it was “shit.” Talk about a plot twist!

But Stu and Amby weren’t having it. They spent two days in the studio, adding vocals and overdubs, trying to save the track. They even threw in a gnarly guitar solo using a cheap acoustic guitar through some weird gear. In the end, they sent it back to Joey with a note begging to keep it on the record. Joey caved, but not before redoing all his parts.

What’s cool about this album is they went for a “no concept” vibe. They wanted it to be instinctual, just a bunch of dudes in a room doing what feels right. Stu says it’s their most collaborative record yet, with everyone bringing ideas and taking turns on lead vocals.
