Haley Heynderickx – Seed of a Seed
I was struck by this track’s simplicity………
Heynderickx mentions that at first, she perceived it as too straightforward, almost like a gimmick. But occasionally, those are the songs that end up saying the most. She says she accidentally packed the last four years of her life into this “tiny little tune”. That’s a pretty powerful statement about songwriting and how our experiences can sneak into our art without us even realizing it.
The instrumentation on this track is pretty stripped back. It’s Heynderickx on vocals and acoustic guitar, with William Seiji Marsh on tenor guitar, Caleigh Drane on cello and doing string arrangements, and Matthew Holmes on double bass. It’s a setup that really lets her voice and lyrics shine through.
For fans who’ve been waiting for new music from Heynderickx, this release is probably a big deal. It’s always interesting when an artist comes back after a long break – you get to see how they’ve evolved and what new things they’re bringing to their music.
If you’re into folk or singer-songwriter stuff, or if you just appreciate thoughtful, introspective lyrics, “Seed of a Seed” is definitely worth a listen. It’s a reminder of why Haley Heynderickx caught people’s attention with her debut, and it’s got me curious about what else she might have in store.
