Tara Clerkin Trio – Somewhere Good
Bristol trio Tara Clerkin Trio — Tara Clerkin, Sunny Joe Paradisos and Patrick Benjamin — have announced their first full-length album, Somewhere Good, due June 5 on World of Echo. The title track arrives as the lead single, and it’s a solid introduction to where they’ve taken their sound since 2023’s On The Turning Ground.
The trio’s earlier releases established a palette built around harmonium drones, upright bass, woodwinds, acoustic guitar and soft keys, woven together with understated beats and careful studio manipulation. “Somewhere Good” sits comfortably in that space — dub undercurrents, kraut-tinged folk pacing, Clerkin’s voice sitting calm and central over arrangements that shift without ever rushing. Produced by Dominic Mitchison and mastered by Noel Summerville, it’s a track that rewards the kind of listening you do without quite meaning to. What I keep coming back to is how the rhythm section behaves — there’s actual drumming underneath the samples, and it shows.
It feels like a band working at their own pace and on their own terms, and “Somewhere Good” makes a convincing case that the wait was worth it.
