Foxwarren – Yvonne (Helado Negro Remix)

Canadian quintet Foxwarren releases a Helado Negro remix of “Yvonne”, originally from their 2025 album “2” on Anti. Electronic avant-pop artist Roberto Lange transforms the track with shimmering textures and a warm, beat-driven pulse, adding electronic flourishes while preserving Andy Shauf’s vocal delivery.

Lange saw Shauf perform solo about a year ago and was blown away. When Foxwarren approached him for the remix, he focused on creating what he calls “wistful dancing”: a mellow bouncing bass, subtle dissonance from rearranged strings, and asymmetrical phrase shapes. Soft reverbs create a smoke screen around Shauf’s voice, which Lange describes as having its texture, like a beautiful landscape that reveals surprises on closer listening.

The original “Yvonne” appeared on Foxwarren’s sophomore album, which marked a sharp turn from their folk roots. After touring their 2018 self-titled debut, the band dropped the traditional live-room recording approach and started constructing songs across provinces, layering strings, sampled sounds, and percussion into cinematic collages. Shauf said they wanted it to “sound best blasting out your car window.”

Foxwarren consists of Shauf, brothers Avery and Darryl Kissick, Dallas Bryson, and Colin Nealis. They’ve been making music together for nearly two decades, taking their name from the Kissicks’ hometown of Foxwarren, Manitoba.

Lange’s remix creates a new environment for the track while maintaining its emotional core. The name Yvonne and how it’s sung feels complete to him, a satisfying melody that could reference someone from long ago or someone you long to see now.
