The Five Techniques – Resistance In The Dark
Belfast producer David Holmes launches The Five Techniques, a collective of artists who believe music, art, and humanity can be acts of resistance. Their first single “Resistance In The Dark” features Irish-Palestinian artist Róisín El Cherif and Paul Weller, merging analogue electronics with waves of psychedelic sound and Middle Eastern influences.
The project came together following Gig For Gaza, a multi-artist event curated by Weller. El Cherif channels the strength of her heritage through powerful vocals in English and Arabic, delivering the line “If my voice should falter, yours will remain.” She says the track represents “Palestine’s story of a people’s fight for freedom, the freedom to be born free in your homeland.”
Weller describes it as their response to ongoing displacement and violence against Palestinian people, showing solidarity with Gaza and Palestine’s struggle. He calls it “a struggle of all people denied their rights.” Matt Bonner created the artwork, while Douglas Hart crafted the video using footage showing the devastation caused by war—similar to his work for Primal Scream’s recent tour.
Profits from the single will be donated to Medical Aid for Palestinians.
