Man/Woman/Chainsaw – Only Girl

Man/Woman/Chainsaw join Fiction Records with “Only Girl”, bringing their violin-driven sound to the label that houses The Cure and St. Vincent. The London sextet’s new single demonstrates that they can craft a straightforward love song without compromising the art-rock edge that has defined them.

Recorded at RAK Studios with Seth Evans (who’s worked with Geordie Greep) and Margo Broom, “Only Girl” started as a guitar jam before morphing into something more major. Vocalist Vera Leppänen describes it as a total declaration of love, and that energy comes through in how the track builds. Clio Harwood’s violin line cuts through the mix with restless intensity, while Billy Ward and Billy Doyle’s guitars create a foundation rather than competing for space.

The band’s six-piece lineup allows them to layer without clutter. Leppänen’s vocals bounce off Harwood’s counter-melodies, with Emmie-Mae Avery on keys/synths, Lola Cherry on drums, and the dual guitar approach keeping everything locked in. Evans and Broom’s production work makes the maximalism feel open rather than suffocating, which is undoubtedly what a band like this needs.

The band plays a free show at London’s Omeara in December, followed by UK and European dates through February.
