Cadence Weapon, Junia-T, DijahSB – Step Out
Cadence Weapon collaborates with Toronto rappers Junia-T and DijahSB on “Step Out”, a new single that channels the energy and style of 90s hip hop.
The track centres on fashion and style, fitting territory for the vintage-loving lyricist. Director Fatty Soprano handles the official video. Rollie Pemberton, the artist behind Cadence Weapon, continues to balance multiple creative pursuits: he’s prepping his third book “Ways of Listening”, an essay collection, while celebrating the 20th anniversary of his debut album “Breaking Kayfabe” with a special tour this fall.
“Breaking Kayfabe” was recently named to the Globe and Mail’s 101 Best Canadian albums and The Toronto Star’s 17 most important albums of the 2000s. The Polaris Prize-nominated debut remains relevant two decades later, a testament to its staying power in Canadian hip hop.
Edmonton’s former Poet Laureate, now based in Hamilton, Pemberton has built a career that spans music, writing, and cultural commentary. His work includes award-winning columns and contributions to CBC Commotion, Hazlitt, and the docuseries “Paid in Full”. The artist’s signature electronic/industrial sound continues to evolve, with plans for a 2026 album featuring live instrumentation and a thematic shift.
