Tyler, The Creator marks the first anniversary of “CHROMAKOPIA” with “CHROMAKOPIA+”, a deluxe edition that brings “Mother” to streaming platforms. The song was previously only available on the album’s limited vinyl test pressings, making it one of the most sought-after tracks in his catalogue.

“MOTHER was the first song I made for this project that year, still not sure why I took it off last minute,” Tyler wrote on Instagram. “Its pretty much the grounding piece of the album.” The streaming version features an entirely new opening verse not found on the vinyl edition. “Lennox where the brown boys at / I can’t go over there / Del Aire where the white boys at / I don’t live over there,” he raps.

Tyler wrote the song in 2020 while riding his bike through his old neighbourhoods in Inglewood, Hawthorne, and South Bay. Conversations with his mother, Bonita Smith, challenged narratives he’d built about his past. He wanted “CHROMAKOPIA” to be percussion-heavy, filled with kelly green, and approached it like a diary covering monogamy, fatherhood, his hair, sexual freedom, and paranoia.

“CHROMAKOPIA” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 despite releasing on a Monday with only four days of tracking. It earned 299,500 units first week and spawned three top 10 hits: “Noid”, “St. Chroma” featuring Daniel Caesar, and “Sticky” with GloRilla, Sexyy Red, and Lil Wayne. Tyler wrote and produced all 14 tracks himself.

He planned for “CHROMAKOPIA” to be his last album for a long time. Still, he released “DON’T TAP THE GLASS” in July 2025, which also hit No. 1. He’s now making his feature film debut in “Marty Supreme” alongside Timothée Chalamet. “Mother” slots in as track 12 of 15, fitting seamlessly into the album’s flow.
