SASAMI and Soccer Mommy – Just Be Friends (Soccer Mommy Version)
California-based artist SASAMI reworks “Just Be Friends” from her March album “Blood On The Silver Screen” with Soccer Mommy, leaning fully into the country influences that shaped the original. Working with co-producers Jenn Decilveo and Rostam on the album, SASAMI found herself returning to classic country artists.
The new version adds pedal steel and Soccer Mommy’s vocals to deliver the country sound SASAMI originally envisioned. She explains that modern country songwriting combines wit, drama, humor, and sadness in ways that make for effective pop songs. To make this version authentic, she brought in Soccer Mommy, who she calls “an actual southern princess.”
Soccer Mommy’s vocals anchor the track differently than the original, giving it a Nashville polish that fits the pedal steel additions. SASAMI wrote all the tracks on “Blood On The Silver Screen” solo, with each song capturing different threads of love, sex, and power. The album’s only other feature was Clairo on “In Love With A Memory.”
SASAMI is currently touring North America supporting King Princess, with dates running through early November hitting Nashville, Atlanta, Brooklyn, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, and Minneapolis.
