Pictish Trail – Infinity Ooze
Johnny Lynch knows how to flip a concept. The Pictish Trail mastermind spent years writing about life’s slimy complications, but “Infinity Ooze” transforms that residue into something life-giving. What started as a mess becomes medicine.
Mike Lindsay’s production gives the track its shimmering quality. Waves of reverb-drenched harmony wash over a baggy ’90s pulse, creating space for Lynch’s reflection on hope. The song builds slowly, letting each element breathe before layering in the next.
Lynch calls it “a love song to the serum that binds us,” which sounds pretentious until you hear how he delivers it. His vocals carry weight without being overwhelmed by their own seriousness. The electronics feel organic rather than programmed, probably because Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP) understands how to make machines sound human.
“Infinity Ooze” comes from “Life Slime,” Lynch’s sixth album and follow-up to 2022’s “Island Family.” The full release date remains TBA, but early vinyl and CD editions are available for UK tour dates. Lynch is doing intimate shows across rural Scotland plus support slots with Tunng before a London headline date in November.
From his base on the Isle of Eigg, Lynch continues building his idiosyncratic universe. Through Lost Map Records, he champions artists like Rozi Plain and Alabaster dePlume while crafting his psychedelic electronic-pop.
