Genesis Owusu – PIRATE RADIO
Genesis Owusu returns after two years with “PIRATE RADIO”. The multiple ARIA Award winner combines thumping electronic-punk production with hard-hitting rap, creating what one reviewer calls a track “on par with Outkast’s cult classic ‘B.O.B.’ but with a darker, more brooding sound.”
Built on textured guitars and bursts of gritty static, “PIRATE RADIO” finds Owusu taking aim at political manipulation and widening inequality. “The rich are getting richer and us regulars are eating each other alive,” he explains. “Smoke-screened by paranoia-inducing culture wars and our own growing poverty.” His voice becomes a marching mantra, an urgent protest that channels 90s underground rave influences into his signature genre-blending approach.
The Ghanaian-Australian artist’s first new music since 2023’s “Struggler” shows him continuing to redraw boundaries between rap, punk, and electronic music. His 2021 debut “Smiling with No Teeth” topped Rolling Stone Australia’s Best Albums of the Decade So Far list and swept the ARIA Awards, proving Owusu’s rare ability to achieve both critical acclaim and cultural impact.
