SPRINTS – Better
Dublin’s SPRINTS slow things down on “Better”, trading their usual garage rock snarl for something more vulnerable. Frontwoman Karla Chubb calls it a song that “sounds like a love song but definitely isn’t”, exploring the concept of only liking someone when they’re at their best rather than enjoying them better overall.
The track emerged from an old demo that bandmates Sam McCann and Zac Stephenson pushed to revisit. Drawing heavily from My Bloody Valentine’s “Loveless” with touches of Amyl and the Sniffers’ “Big Dreams”, it shows a different side of SPRINTS while maintaining their emotional intensity. Chubb describes it as “tough, sad, but honest and frank”.
“Better” comes from their upcoming second album, “All That Is Over”, due September 26 via City Slang. Written on tour buses and during soundchecks against a backdrop of global chaos, the album pushes the band into richer territory. Director Niamh Bryson’s accompanying video captures the heartbreak and vulnerability with monochrome visuals that force you to sit with difficult emotions.
