Sudan Archives – MS. PAC MAN
Sudan Archives throws caution to the wind with ‘MS. PAC MAN’, a deliberately crude departure from her usual introspective songwriting. The track came together during a family studio session when her cousin Taylor complained about too much romance in Sudan’s music and wanted something “toxic” instead. When Taylor’s husband Eric played a beat and Taylor shouted “put it in my mouth,” Sudan ran with it.
Producer-wise, Sudan takes executive control on this one, working between Los Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit to create something that feels intentionally unhinged. The production pulls from arcade game sound effects and strip-club rap, creating a chaotic backdrop for Sudan’s most direct lyrics yet. It’s profanity and irreverence over thoughtful sentiment.
‘MS. PAC MAN’ serves as the fourth preview from her upcoming album ‘THE BPM’, due October 17th via Stones Throw. Where her previous albums looked backward, this project imagines a chrome-plated future where everyone finds their own rhythm. The Aris Chatman-directed video matches the song’s frantic energy with Y2K aesthetics and psychedelic emoji chaos.
Despite the album’s high-energy approach, Sudan hasn’t abandoned deeper themes entirely. ‘THE BPM’ still tackles mental health, heartbreak, and self-love, but tracks like this show her embracing a more playful side. The family collaboration reminded her of writing and dancing with relatives when she was younger, bringing that homemade energy to her most entertaining album yet.
