Sarah Katherine Lawless – make it make sense (feat. Ava McCoy) [stripped]
Sarah Katherine Lawless strips down her 2024 track ‘make it make sense’ for an entirely new version featuring Ava McCoy. Where the original channelled rage and frustration, this reworked ballad focuses on the aftermath of a connection gone wrong. Producer Ben Coleman helped rebuild the song from scratch.
This stripped version lets the lyrics breathe, while McCoy’s vocals add emotional weight to the resigned acceptance that comes after the storm.make it make sense
Lawless learned herself guitar through writing original songs rather than covers, creating unconventional voicings that became her sound. She draws from baroque and jazz influences, alongside Stephen Sondheim’s approach to storytelling through music. The collaboration with Ava McCoy adds another voice to what Lawless calls a universal experience.
Her debut EP ‘Look What I’m Learning!’ emerged from late-night recording sessions in her Boston flat using a makeshift setup inspired by the film ‘Begin Again’. The project showcases her ability to balance delicate melodies with explosive indie-rock moments, influenced by artists like Julia Jacklin and Sidney Gish.
