Guerilla Toss – CEO of Personal & Pleasure
Guerilla Toss has promoted themselves to executive status with ‘CEO of Personal & Pleasure’. Kassie Carlson’s mission statement is delightfully unhinged: “Instead of marinating in the void, I’ve chosen to gaslight myself into greatness by firing my inner critic and reinstating myself as the slightly unhinged CEO of my own emotional start-up.”
The concept works brilliantly as both satire and survival mechanism. Late-stage capitalism meets self-care nihilism, but instead of cynical resignation, Guerilla Toss finds empowerment in the absurdity. This “emotional start-up” doesn’t have a five-year plan, just “dogs, vicious optimism, and a vague idea that being alive should occasionally feel good.” That last bit might be the most radical business model of all.
Their upcoming album ‘You’re Weird Now’ was produced by Stephen Malkmus at Trey Anastasio’s Barn studio. The collaboration signals Guerilla Toss reaching back into their strongest material rather than chasing novelty. As drummer Peter Negroponte explains, “instead of being like, what should we try that we haven’t done, it was like, what have we done that’s the strongest, and how can we work off that.”
