Hang Linton – Broke
‘Broke’ sees Leeds-based interdisciplinary artist Hang Linton turning personal vulnerability into emotion for the dance floor.
Linton’s love-meets-poverty is refreshing in its honesty rather than performative wretchedness. Lines like “I can’t buy you diamonds or the fanciest clothes/ But if life gives you lemons I will paint that shit gold” capture the artist’s alchemical use of limitation into possibility. Below the saxophone fire and anxious-euphoric synths, a breakbeat bass drafted by Jon Evans piles up under the production.
Having sharpened their skills within Berlin’s underground before bringing them back to UK soil, it is no surprise that Hang Linton should carry a decidedly European air to their British dance-punk.
