Open Mike Eagle – my co-worker clark kent’s secret black box
Through the lens of indie-rap maestro Open Mike Eagle, here’s the burning question in superhero pop culture: how in the hell does nobody at the Daily Planet know that Clark Kent is Superman? ‘My Co-Worker Clark Kent’s Secret’ goes workplace frustration turned existential with a ‘black box’ surrounding him by journalists, apparently not helping with basic pattern recognition.
Eagle’s information is captured from a Daily Planet employee, whose brain is pretty disoriented at the insult of the obvious charade. Eagle extends the metaphor to something more universal. The track is a meditation on open secrets and the unexpected anger that haunts those who once gave up their dreams, while others have held on. The sarcastic tone of K-Nite 13’s production provides a perfect soundtrack for Eagle’s characteristic observer role, a space made for going off on tangents that somehow feel necessary.
Taken from the forthcoming album, out next 11.07.2025 via Auto Reverse Records, ‘Neighborhood Gods Unlimited’, the track demonstrates Eagle’s knack for mining profound meanings out of debris from the pop culture.
