Say She She – Cut & Rewind
Say She She has unveiled ‘Cut & Rewind’, the title track from their forthcoming third album arriving October 3rd via drink sum wtr. The NYC trio—Piya Malik, Sabrina Mileo Cunningham, and Nya Gazelle Brown delivers their signature discodelic funk with crystalline three-part harmonies that transform political commentary into dancefloor communion.
The track emerges from the band’s relentless touring cycle, capturing what they describe as ‘the rugged reality of being on the road and running back into the studio to cut a record as soon as we were off’. The production maintains their reverence for late 70s disco architecture while incorporating elements that nod to contemporary punk spirit.
Recorded at North Hollywood’s Killion Sound with their rhythm section, the album expands their sonic palette, drawing influences from Lonnie Liston Smith to the Lijadu Sisters. The band’s approach to writing remains rooted in spontaneity and presence, channeling immediate thoughts and feelings into what they call ‘homophonic cocktails served up strong, no frills’.
Since their 2022 debut ‘Prism’ and 2023’s breakthrough ‘Silver’, Say She She has ascended from Lower East Side neighbours singing through floorboards to international festival stages including Glastonbury. Their advocacy extends beyond music, with singles like ‘NORMA’ raising funds following Roe v Wade’s reversal and ‘Echo In The Chamber’ supporting gun control legislation.
