The New Eves – Cow Song
‘Cow Song’ is not your usual pastoral throwback. The New Eves aren’t imitating tradition—they’re reanimating it with field recordings, string swells, and the ghost of a cow named Bonnie. Born from an improvised jam and partly sung directly to Bonnie in the Welsh countryside, this track channels the spirit of ancient rituals without ever feeling quaint.
It’s inspired by kulning, an old Scandinavian technique where women used their voices to call cattle across valleys. Except here, those calls echo with something more—liberation and longing. The rhythm walks with cows; the voices sound like they’ve decided they’re done being quiet. There’s vulnerability, sure, but it’s dressed in rawness and noise.
‘Cow Song’ sets the tone for The New Eve Is Rising, the band’s debut album coming August 1 via Transgressive. Equal parts folk-punk incantation and primal harmony exercise, the song reminds us that you don’t need permission to be loud—or unconventional. The New Eves have built something entirely their own: wild, ritualistic, and rooted in the right kind of myth.
