Modern Nature – Pharaoh

Modern Nature has returned with “Pharaoh”, the lead single from their upcoming album “The Heat Warps” due August 29th via Bella Union. The band has now streamlined to a core quartet, adding guitarist Tara Cunningham to create what Cooper describes as “finding the other side to the square”,.

“Pharaoh” emerges from Cooper’s desire to make music that Andrew Weatherall might have played to friends late at night, adopting Weatherall’s motto “Fail we may, sail we must” as the song’s philosophical backbone.

Cooper explains the song as making “the case for finding a personal philosophy and trying to live a life that might inspire others or at the very least not hurt them”, a sentiment that sounds noble until you realize it’s essentially “try to be a decent person” dressed up in more elaborate language.
