bdrmm – Lake Disappointment

“Lake Disappointment,” the latest bdrmm single, from their upcoming album Microtonic (out February 28 via #RockActionRecords), is a turn into darker and “clubbier” territory. The Hull-based band has been inching toward electronic sounds for a while, but this track cements the shift—leaner, grittier, and more aggressive than anything they’ve done before.

The song pulses, it’s built on tight, hypnotic beats and flickering synths that push it far from their shoegaze roots. There’s still melancholy buried, but frontman Ryan Smith describes this track as fueled by something angrier: “This is us getting that out, and saying ‘fuck you’ to the wrongdoers.”

Then there’s the video. Shot in an abandoned Sheffield warehouse, the band spent 12 hours in hospital gowns, creating what Smith calls “our own dystopian TV shopping channel under strong orders from our bosses at MicroTech.”
