Surprise Chef – Bully Ball

Surprise Chef – Bully Ball

Surprise Chef’s “Bully Ball” grooves at a deliberate 95 BPM, blending hip-hop swagger with funk’s loose spontaneity. The lead single from Superb (out May 16) nods to early 2000s beats while layering spooky glockenspiel, wah guitar, and thunderous drums. Recorded live to tape in Melbourne’s College Of Knowledge, the track reflects the band’s shift toward raw, unpolished energy—a conscious move away from over-scrutinized perfection. Guitarist Lachlan Stuckey calls it “genetically engineered to make your face scrunch up,” a nod to its head-nodding rhythm and basketball-inspired aggression (hence the title).
