The Weather Station – Mirror
The Weather Station’s “Mirror,” the final preview of their upcoming album Humanhood (out this Friday via Fat Possum Records), is an ethereal exploration of self-awareness and the interplay between humanity and nature. Tamara Lindeman, the project’s driving force, uses vivid, poetic imagery to examine how the world reflects what we put into it.
Built on clattering percussion, “Mirror” captures the tension between dissonance and harmony. Lindeman’s voice—at once delicate and commanding—anchors the song’s shifting soundscape. As the instrumentation grows increasingly garbled and deconstructs into shimmering strings and synths, the track leaves listeners feeling suspended in light, mirroring the transcendence Lindeman describes in her lyrics.
“This song is about how life and nature are a biofeedback loop,” Lindeman explains. “What you put out responds, and you respond in return. I wanted the song to warp and disintegrate, like the scaffolding of a fantasy falling apart, until you’re left with only light.”
Thematically, Humanhood is as expansive as its sound, grappling with climate change, societal collapse, heartbreak, and the search for connection. Co-produced with Marcus Paquin and featuring contributions from Sam Amidon, Karen Ng, and others, the album builds on Lindeman’s reputation for blending organic and synthetic textures with improvisational ease.
