Pit Pony – Vacancy

Pit Pony’s “Vacancy” delivers a searing critique of modern social media culture, blending the band’s gritty post-punk edge with sharp commentary on the absurdity of influencer-driven consumerism. As the latest single from their upcoming sophomore album Dead Stars (out February 7 via Clue Records), “Vacancy” channels frustration and disconnection into a cathartic anthem for anyone overwhelmed by the relentless noise of online life.

Opening with a driving bassline, the track builds tension through surf-rock-inspired guitar riffs and raw, impassioned vocals from Jackie Purver. Lyrically, “Vacancy” captures the monotony and emptiness of aspiring to trends sold by influencers, with Purver lamenting a world consumed by curated perfection. The song crescendos into a spiraling cry of frustration, mirroring the chaotic cycle of unfulfilling desires fueled by social media.

Purver explains, “It’s about being dumbfounded by the modern world and social media. My news feed is full of suggested videos telling me my life will be better if I buy leggings or an ‘off menu’ Starbucks drink. It feels like a black hole, a vacancy pulling us in, especially targeting young people. I want to derail it, take things in a messier, more genuine direction.”
