Happy Little Clouds – Higher
Happy Little Clouds, the Boston-based power pop outfit, continues their sonic evolution with their latest single, Higher. Released via The Sound Cove label, this track captures the band’s signature ability to blend nostalgic sounds that feel like a warm embrace from the past while propelling listeners forward into an introspective journey.
Driven by Derek Bergstrom’s 90s-inspired bassline, the song exudes a subtle groove that feels both familiar and refreshingly unique. Guitarist and vocalist Jac Mestel’s lyrics explore the nature of love—unconditional, vulnerable, and transformative.
Mestel explains, “When you see enough examples in life of relationships that masquerade as love, you can then understand what unconditional love really is and how it inspires you to become your highest self.” This theme resonates deeply throughout the track, carried by the interplay of driving rhythms and soaring melodies.
Drummer Jess Townsend adds an unexpected layer of emotion with a drumlins-inspired outro. “I wanted to take the song ‘higher’ with a marching bass drum feel that Jac described as a heartbeat,” Townsend shares, bringing the song full circle to its thematic roots.
The repeated refrain “There is no gravity here, and if you fall, it’s your fear preventing you from going higher” serves as both a mantra and a call to action.
Higher is a powerful addition to the Happy Little Clouds catalogue, showcasing their knack for crafting infectious, thought-provoking music.
