Marie Davidson – Sexy Clown
Marie Davidson’s back and she’s brought the whole circus with her. The Canadian producer just dropped “Sexy Clown”, the first taste of her new album “City Of Clowns” landing February 28 via DEEWEE. And yeah, Soulwax got their hands on this one.
Teaming up with Pierre Guerineau and the Dewaele brothers, Davidson’s cooking up something that feels like a wild mashup of her past lives – think the sharp-tongued techno of “Working Class Woman” meets the pop twists of “Renegade Breakdown”. This time around, she’s got surveillance capitalism on her mind (thanks to some reading of Shoshana Zuboff) and clowns. Lots of clowns.
“Most people have a clown inside them,” Davidson says, and she’s not wrong. Some make you laugh, some creep you out, but they’re all “dying to be seen”. In “Sexy Clown”, she’s playing with that performer’s magnetism while asking the real questions like “Am I full of shit?”
