Les Amazones d’Afrique return with “Wa Jo”, a vibrant celebration of body positivity featuring Nigerian singer Jemiriye alongside founding member Mamani Keïta. The track appears on their latest release “Musow Danse (Bonus Edition)”, out now on Real World Records.

The song, performed in Yoruba and Bambara, transforms into an anthem of self-acceptance and joy. Its message is clear and universal: “Don’t hide, you’re perfect as you are”. The lyrics celebrate all body types with lines like “Fat or skinny, don’t matter at all” and “Every curve, every line is made divine”.

The accompanying video, filmed in Belfast, brings together women from diverse backgrounds and generations. These collaborations arose from meaningful discussions about body image and self-acceptance, themes central to the track’s creation.

The collective explains their vision: “Women inflict an internal violence on themselves by the way that they view their bodies. We torment ourselves everyday chasing certain body shapes and trying to alter our physical appearance. But there is no such thing as the perfect body”.

Through its energetic rhythms and alternating vocals between Jemiriye and Keïta, “Wa Jo” invites everyone to celebrate themselves on the dancefloor, creating a space where joy and self-acceptance reign supreme.
