J.R.C.G. – Dogear

J.R.C.G., also known as Justin R. Cruz Gallego, has returned with a new single, “Dogear,” under Sub Pop Records. This track is the lead single from his forthcoming album Grim Iconic… (Sadistic Mantra), set for release this summer. Known for his previous work with the psychedelic noise-rock band Dreamdecay, Gallego now channels his creative energy into his solo project J.R.C.G., producing a distinctive brand of nervous, percussive post-punk.

“Dogear” stands out as a buzzing, claustrophobic dance-punk jam that feels like a record left out in the sun too long, with all the sounds warping and melting into each other. Co-produced with Seth Manchester, known for his work with Battles and Lingua Ignota, the track strikes a balance between anxiety and playful dissonance. Gallego himself describes the song as an attempt to be dissonant without taking itself too seriously, capturing a sense of fun amidst the chaos.

The accompanying music video amplifies the song’s twisted energy, offering a visual feast that complements the auditory experience. As J.R.C.G. tours with Mdou Moctar, performing with a live band featuring members of Dreamdecay, Blood Brothers, and Big Bite, “Dogear” sets the stage for what promises to be a compelling album.
